As it is stated in ancient chronicles, in 1147
Prince Yury Dolgoruky invited his relative, Prince Svyatoslav
Olgovich, to see him in Moscow which at that time was
a small castle lost in the boundless Russian forest. Thus
the history of the biggest political, economic, cultural
and scientific center of Russia began. In the 12th century
Moscow turned into a fortress, by the 13th century it
was already a town and in the 15th century Moscow became
the capital of the Russian State. Today Moscow with its
history, its architectural masterpieces and its innumerable
art treasures has found itself in a whirlpool of global
currents determining world development. People from all
over the world come to witness Moscow splendors and to
fall for the charm the capital of the largest empire on
earth certainly possesses. |

Kazan
The date of Kazan foundation is inexact. According opinions
of some historians it was founded in the second half of
the 13th century, but the other specialists believe that
the city was founded in 1177. It is located on the banks
of the Volga river. Since 1438 it was the capital of Kazan
khanate, and was won in 1552 by Russian tsar Ivan the
Terrible. Nowadays Kazan is the capital of the republic
Tatarstan. Kazan is a large industrial center of the region.
It witnessed many important historical events. For example,
it was here that the leader of the Bolsheviks party Vladimir
Lenin started his activities. Kazan is a very interesting
city from architectural point of view. Here one can see
old buildings, which were carefully preserved until our
days. Among them is the Kremlin with constructions of
the 16th-18th centuries, Peter and Paul cathedral, the
Marjani mosque. |

Krasnodar
Krasnodar was founded in the end of the 18th century by
the Cossacks upon the order of Russian Empress Catherine
the Great. The fortress that they built was the center
of the Chernomorsky Cossacks' army. The city is located
on the banks of the Kuban river. By the end of the 19th
century Krasnodar was turned into trading, industrial
and transport center of the Kuban region. The industries
of Krasnodar include food processing, engineering and
oil refining. It is linked by pipeline with the Caspian
oilfields. Noadays Krasnodar is the religious center of
Kuban region. It is famous for its beautiful Orthodox
churches and cathedrals. In the museums of Krasnodar the
visitors can see archeologists' finds and outstanding
works of art, which allow learning more about the history
of Krasnodar. |
